Jose Carlos Sánchez (Jay Kalo) was born in Havana (Cuba), on September 15, 1997. He began his musical career at the age of 10 and studied percussion at the National School of Art of Cuba (ENA).
He won first place at the International Drum Festival in Cuba, on two consecutive occasions.
At only 17 years old, his first trip was to New York, to perform with the „Big Band Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra“ where he met and played with Wynton Marsalis.
Upon completing his studies, he began to play and record with a multitude of artists at a national and international level, such as Alain Pérez (album „The Tale of the Good Pipa“), Omara Portuondo (jazz festival „Barranquijazz“, Colombia), Maria del Mar Bonet („Ultramar“ tour) and among others.
